  5. Think about it… In the summer, why does the inside of a car get very hot when it is sitting in the sun? • The heat from the sun goes into the car. The windows on the car trap the heat inside. This makes the inside of the car heat up

  6. GREENHOUSE EFFECT When incoming solar radiation (heat) is absorbed by gases in the atmosphere. (Just like the windows in a car trap heat, the gasses in the atmosphere trap heat.) Without the atmosphere, earth would be 59 F colder!

  7. GREENHOUSE EFFECT • What traps the heat? • Water vapor (H2O) • Carbon dioxide (CO2) • Nitrous oxide (N2O) • Methane (CH4) • These are called “greenhouse gases.” • The more greenhouse gases in the troposphere, the warmer our planet gets.

  21. How are oceans impacted by climate change? Ocean Acidification: The ongoing decrease in the pH of the Earth's oceans caused by the uptake of CO2 from the atmosphere. A more acidic ocean could wipe out species, disrupt the food web and impact fishing and tourism.
