  2. Aims of the Workshop By the end of this session we hope you will: • Understand key points to achieving effective community involvement. • Gain a better knowledge of involvement techniques. • Pick up useful tips and awareness and access to new resources.

  3. What is Community Involvement? “Community Involvement is the process in which local communities and individuals become engaged in the decision making, design and management of projects” (Sustrans, 2008) Communication Consultation

  4. Communication • A key element in ensuring community involvement in any project. • What exactly is the message? Who is the target audience? • How do you get that message out? Village Newsletters/Magazines Face to Face Village/Parish Websites Facebook Noticeboards Twitter School Newsletter Existing Groups newsletters

  5. Consultation • To consult - seek information or advice from; take into consideration. • Can be as simple as gathering ideas at an informal meeting or as complex as a full household survey on a range of topics. • The level of consultation you choose will depend on why you are doing it.
