Reflection

Reflection. Reflection. Starter. x = 2. x = -4. y = 4. y = -8. What is the x-axis?. What is the y-axis?. What is the line ‘x = 2’? What about ‘x = -4’?. What is the line ‘y = 4’? What about ‘y = -8’?. Starter. x = 7. x = -8.

  1. Reflection Reflection

  2. Starter x = 2 x = -4 y = 4 y = -8 What is the x-axis? What is the y-axis? What is the line ‘x = 2’? What about ‘x = -4’? What is the line ‘y = 4’? What about ‘y = -8’?

  3. Starter x = 7 x = -8 • How could you describe each of these lines, in terms of x or y? y = 2 y = -10

  4. Starter • How could you describe this line, in terms of x and y? Along the line, the x and y values are equal… y = x

  5. Reflection in a Line • Today we are looking at reflecting shapes • To reflect any shape, you must know where the ‘mirror line’ is • The way this is described is based on the starter

  6. Reflection in a Line • Reflect the shape in the x-axis • The mirror line is the x-axis, so draw this line on the grid… • To reflect the shape, plot each of the corners. The new corners will be the same distance on the other side of the mirror line

  7. Reflection in a Line • Reflect the shape in the y-axis • The mirror line is the y-axis, so draw this line on the grid… • To reflect the shape, plot each of the corners. The new corners will be the same distance on the other side of the mirror line

  8. Reflection in a Line • Reflect the shape in the line x = 2 • The mirror line is x = 2, so draw this line on the grid… • To reflect the shape, plot each of the corners. The new corners will be the same distance on the other side of the mirror line

  9. Reflection in a Line • Reflect the shape in the line y = 1 • The mirror line is y = 1, so draw this line on the grid… • To reflect the shape, plot each of the corners. The new corners will be the same distance on the other side of the mirror line

  10. Reflection in a Line • Reflect the shape in the line x = -6 • The mirror line is x = -6, so draw this line on the grid… • To reflect the shape, plot each of the corners. The new corners will be the same distance on the other side of the mirror line

  11. Reflection in a Line • Reflect the shape in the line y = 6 • The mirror line is y = 6, so draw this line on the grid… • To reflect the shape, plot each of the corners. The new corners will be the same distance on the other side of the mirror line

  12. Reflection in a Line • Reflect the shape in the line y = x • The mirror line is y = x, so draw this line on the grid… • To reflect the shape, plot each of the corners. The new corners will be the same distance on the other side of the mirror line

  13. Summary • We have learnt about reflection • We have seen how to perform a reflection on a set of axes • We have also seen how to work out what ‘mirror line’ a question wants you to use…
