  2. Create your own user account • Go to the address www.refworks.com/refworks2 or Helsinki University Library homepage (and find Refworks) 2. Click on Sign up for a New Account 3. Create your own login name and password. Fill in all the fields. Use helsinki.fi e-mail address. 4. Click on Create Account(Your login name and the Group Code are emailed to you) • You may need the Group Code to log in Group code:__________ ViikkiCampus Library

  3. Import data • Add new reference manually • Click New Reference • Direct export to RefWorks • ProQuest-databases (e.g. Agricola), Ovid SP -databases (e.g. CAB and Medline), Ebsco, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Scopus • Click: Save to RefWorks / Export / Export Citations • E.g. ProQuest databases • Mark the interesting references • Click Export/Save • Choose RefWorks • Click Continue • E.g. Scopus • Mark the interesting references • Click Export • Choose Refworksdirect export • (Choose the information to export: All available information) •  Click Export Viikki Campus Library

  4. Import data • Import from a saved/opened text file • References–Import, e.g. SciFinder, PubMed E.g. PubMed: • Make a search • Mark the interesting references • Click Send to: • Choose destination: File • Format: Medline • Click Create file • Open the text file • Copy the text (Ctrl A and Ctrl C) • In RefWorks choose References–Import • Choose Import Filter/DataSource: NLM PubMed • Choose Database: PubMed • Click From Text • Paste the text (Ctrl V)  Click Import Viikki Campus Library

Important functions etc. • Folder • A reference can be placed into several folders or it does not need to be in any folder • Duplicates • Delete duplicates by choosing View –Duplicates • Editing references • ClickEdit (pencil and paper-icon) • E.g. youcanattach a fileormakecorrections click Save Reference • Link resolver • Check availability of the full text • Import web-sites as references • Download RefGrab-It: Tools –RefGrab-It • Sharing folders (RefShare) • In Organize and Share Folders –tab select the folder you want to share (folder and arrow -icon) click Share • Output styles • Bibliography– Output Style Manager • You can choose styles for you bibliography by adding them to Favorites • You can also request styles: Help –Request – Output Style • You can edit your own output style: Bibliography – Output Style Editor Viikki Campus Library

  6. Create bibliography with Write-N-Cite 4.2 • (= RefWorks tab in Word-program) • Download Write’n Cite 4.2 • To your own computer/laptop: InRefworks Tools–Write-N-Cite • Computers in the university: RefWorkstab should be in Word-program • If you can’t find Refworks tab on Word – Click (in Word) File-> Options -> Add-Ins- SelectManage: Disableditems+ Go - Select WNC – ClickEnable • Formatting Bibliography • If the bibliography is not in the alphabetical order you want, change language! In RefWorks: Customize – Startup Options– Language/Locale  Click Save Customized Settings Viikki Campus Library

  7. How to use Write-N-Cite • Click “RefWorks” in your MS Word ribbon to launch Write-N-Cite (a) • Login to your RefWorks account by clicking the login button (b). You can enter your Group Code, Login Name & Password or you can use the Login Code as copied from the Write-N-Cite download page. • Click the Insert Citation and Insert New option to launch the insert/edit citation box (c). • Output Style and bibliography: • Click the Styledropdown and choosestyle (d) - ClickBibliographyOptions, InsertBibliography(e). a d e b c

  8. Create bibliography without Write-N-Cite • Online • Create your manuscript using e.g. Word or Open Office • In RefWorks: Click Cite (curly brackets -icon) – Click Select • e.g. {{1376 Jehkonen,M. 2001;959 Jensen,P.K. 1988;}} – Copy (Ctrl C) the selected references • In document: Paste (Ctrl V) the references – Savedocument • In RefWorks: • ChooseBibliography–FormatDocument • Choose Output Style • Droporselect a filefromyourcomputer to the box •  ClickCreateBibliography • Offline • In RefWorks: • Help – Launch Help File – Writing Your Paper and Creating Bibliography – Writing Your Paper Offline Viikki Campus Library
