  1. MXL/MXL-IQ to FireFinder XLS Total Migration Solution – Technical Overview

  2. Intro • Siemens is in the process of developing a MXL to FireFinder XLS total migration solution

  3. Features of the MXL to XLS migration solution • MXL Line Card (MLC) that allows XLS to communicate to existing ALD devices • Enclosure adapters that allow XLS components to fit into existing MXL and MXL-IQ backboxes MSE-2, MSE-2R, MME-3, MME-3R, MBR-2, MLE-6, MLE-6R, MSE-3M, MSE-3MR, MSE-3L, MSE-3LR • Enclosure adapters that allow SSD to fit into remote annunciator backboxes RCC-1, RCC-3, RCC-3R, RCC-1F, RCC-3F, RCC-3FR • Ability to import MXL device custom message database into XLS programming tool which reduces programming time

  4. Advantages • Competitive cost advantage for replacement of installed MXL systems due to ability to keep existing field devices and wiring • Less downtime for fire alarm system during migration • Ability to use existing backbox which eliminates an additional cut-out in the wall • Reduced programming time, reduces labor costs • Gets the customer’s solution accomplished faster than any competitor’s approach • Advanced system with improved response time that is easier to maintain

  5. MXL Configurations to Target • Single node MXL • MXL-IQs without high levelVESDA interface • Single node MXL with transponders • Single node MXLV Voicewith transponders • Networked MXLs • MXL to XLS interpanel logic is not supported (Proper Planning is required)

  6. MXL with XLDs • XLD Loops are required to be replaced with DLCs and H series devices • Please consult Florham Park to ensure DLC and MLC circuits can be run in the same conduit • DLC could cause noise on the MLC circuit with distances over 2000 ft when Unshielded, Untwisted wire is used!

  7. MXL Configurations to Not Target at this time • MXL-IQs with high level VESDA interface • Networked MXLVs with RCMs • MXLVs with more than 4 prerecorded digital messages or spoken zone coding • MXL(V)s connected to Apogee Insight • MXLs connected to NCC-WAN via the HUB-4/CMI-300 • MXL installations requiring FM or US Coast Guard approval

  8. MLC (MXL Line Card for FireFinder XLS) • Optional card for the FireFinder XLS panel utilizing the ALD Model "I" Series; Model "ID" Series; Model "IL" Series or Model "FP" Series type intelligent devices • Each card supplies 2 circuits • Each circuit supports 60 intelligent (addressable) devices • Each MLC supports 120 devices • Fits in XLS CC-5 or CC-2 card cage • Allows FireFinder XLS headend to use existing field devices and wiring • Consult XLS Wiring Compatibility Guide P/N 315-034786-3 (released October 2010)

  15. Database Import Capability • Import MXL CSGM device custom messages and properties into FireFinder XLS Zeus Windows based programming tool • Greatly reduces programming time

  16. Estimation of MXL to FireFinder XLS Migration

  17. Basic MXL System Conversion • MLC has List Price (TradeNet) of $1358 • CC-5 cardcage required • PMI-INT is required if Spanish, Portuguese or French overlays are needed

  18. Fire Module Conversion • Determine required CC-5/CC-2 cardcages for cards and necessary cabinet space for modules

  19. Fire Module Conversion (cont’) • FSI connection – Consult with Florham Park.

  20. Fire Module Conversion (cont’)

  21. Estimation of MXLV to FireFinder XLSV Migration

  22. Voice Module Conversion • Determine required CC-5/CC-2 cardcages for cards and necessary cabinet space for modules

  23. Voice Module Conversion (cont’) • Determine necessary cabinet space for modules

  24. Estimating Migration for MXLV with FireFighter’s Phones • ICPs used for telephone applications are not supported. Should replace with HCP driven by DLC or use alternate design • Determine required CC-5/CC-2 cardcages for cards

  25. Estimating Migration for MXLV with FireFighter’s Phones (cont’) • Remote Wardens Telephones have to be replaced with either FTS, FTS-P, FTS-C, FTS-CL, FTS-PLC • FB-300, FB-301S Warden Station Boxes can remain. • FJ-303, FJ-304, FJ-303SS, FJ-304SS phone jacks can remain

  26. Reuse of Wire and other Considerations • Consult XLS Wiring Compatibility Guide P/N 315-034786-3 (released October 2010) to ensure existing wiring can be reused. • Shielded analog audio riser cannot be used for DNET communication between DAC-NETs. • DNET communication requires 2 pairs of wire • XLS(V) NAC End of Line (EOL) Resistor Values are different than MXL(V) • MXL nodes with over 2500 addressable points need to converted to networked XLSs

  27. Estimating the Enclosures

  28. Estimating MXL Enclosure Adaptation for FireFinder XLS • XLS-EXT-CABLE-PKG (List Price $286) is recommended for desired placement of PMI and CAN submodules. • If the battery calculations exceed 31AH then the CAB-BATT must be installed. • Each row of installed equipment also requires a CAB-MP mounting plate (sold separately). • Inner and Outer Door Plates (sold separately).

  29. Estimating MXL-IQ Enclosure Adaptation for FireFinder XLS • If the battery calculations exceed 18AH then the CAB-BATT must be installed.

  30. Estimating RCC Enclosure Adaptation for FireFinder XLS • Adapting the above enclosures assumes a SSD(-C) (sold separately) will be the replacement remote annunciator. • RCC-2 needs to be replaced with a SSD(-c) or SSD-C-REM with REMBOX2. • A Global MKB in RCC needs to be replaced with a Global PMI in a REMBOX2. • A Global PMI in a REMBOX2 may be required to satisfy a customer request in order to provide Function Keys or maintain the functionality of an existing MKB-5 multiline display. • PMI-INT is required if Spanish, Portuguese or French overlays are needed

  31. XL3 and System 3 Enclosures • There are no adapters for XL3 and System 3 Enclosures • Replace with standardXLS CAB • For example, it is recommended to converta MXLV and associated System 3 enclosure withEL-410’s into CAB3’s with ZAM-180’s and CAB-BATT’s
