  6. producing pictures with camera: the art, hobby, or profession of taking photographs, and developing and printing the film or processing the digitized array image using light to make pictures:the process of recording images by exposing light-sensitive film or array to light or other forms of radiation What is photograph?

  7. TYPES OF PHOTOGRAPHY • Black & White- due to its lower cost and its "classic" photographic look. • Aerial- is the taking of photographs of the ground from an elevated position. • Sports- newspapers, major wire agencies or dedicated sports magazines, advertising. • Journalism • Architectural-is the practice of photographing buildings and similar structures, both inside and out. • Scenery • Travel • People

  8. Careers in Photography • Commercial photography- is photographer is paid for images rather than works of art. • Advertising photography- photographs made to illustrate and usually sell a service or product. • Fashion and glamour photography- usually incorporates models. Photographers here are paid more because of the demand for good photographers to shoot the item being sold and incorporate the models beauty in the image. • Crime scene photography- consists of photographing scenes of crime such as robberies and murders. A black and white camera or an infrared camera may be used to capture specific details.

  9. Careers in Photography • Still life photography- usually depicts inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural or man-made. • Food photography- can be used for editorial, packaging or advertising use. Food photography is similar to still life photography, but requires some special skills.

  10. Careers in Photography • Editorial photography-illustrates a story or idea within the context of a magazine. These are usually assigned by the magazine. • Photojournalism – photographs made in this context are accepted as a documentation of a news story.

  11. Careers in Photography • Portrait and wedding photography- photographs made and sold directly to the end user of the images. • Landscape photography- depicts locations. • Wildlife photography- demonstrates the life of animals. • Paparazzi

  12. Camera • The camera is a dark room or chamber from which all light is excluded except the light that forms the image. • The subject being photographed, however, must be illuminated.

  13. APERTURE • is a hole or an opening through which light travels. • a wide aperture results in an image that is sharp around what the lens is focusing on and blurred otherwise. • the narrower the aperture, the darker the image

  14. SHUTTER SPEED • Adjustment of the speed of the shutter to control the amount of time the imaging medium is exposed to light. • Shutter speed may be used to control the amount of light striking the image. • Faster shutter speeds (shorter duration) decrease both the amount of light and image blurring from motion.

  15. METERING • Measurement of exposure so that highlights and shadows are exposed according to the photographer's wishes. • Many modern cameras meter and set exposure automatically.

  16. ISO SPEED • The higher the ISO number the greater the film sensitivity to light. • A lower ISO number the film is less sensitive to light. • A combination of ISO speed, aperture, and shutter speed leads to an image that is neither too dark nor too light.
