  1. Renewable energies in the Andean Region Peru, Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador

  2. Energy cooperation between Finland and Andean region • Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs will launch a renewable energy and energy efficiency program for the Andean countries (Peru, Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador) • The program offers good opportunities for Finnish know-how and technology providers • Budget of the program is 6,2 million EUR for 3 years • The Andean energy project will be launched in Lima, Peru on 7th of March, 2011

  5. Basic facts - Peru • GDP: 129 Billion USD • GDP growth: 0,9 % (2009) and 3,4 % (2010) • Population: 30 Million • GDP (PPP) per capita: 8,500 USD • Ease of doing business: 36 (2010) (2nd in Latin America after Mexico) • Inflation: 2,9 % • FDI: 5 Billion USD (2009) • Exports: 34 Billion USD (2008) • Imports: 22 Billion USD (2008) • Main export goods: minerals, petroleum, fish, agricultural products, textile, wood, furniture • Main export countries: USA, China, Switzerland, Canada, Japan, Germany • Main import countries: USA, China, Brazil • Finnish exports to Peru: 93 Million USD (2008) Source: Finnish Customs, CEPAL, World Bank, CIA World Factbook

  6. Energy generation in Peru Energy generation capacity • Peru’s energy generation capacity is 7158 MW, almost half of this is hydro power • Hydropower 45% (2008) • Thermoelectric 55% (2008) • almost entirely natural gas, only a small fraction is carbon and gasoline Renewable energies • Peru recently auctioned 17 hydro power plants • There is an energy integration agreement with Brazil with plans to establish up to 6 000 MW of hydro power • 172 MW of wind power, 80 MW solar power and 27 MW biomass was auctioned in 2010 • 1000 MW more renewable energy projects to be auctioned • By law, within a couple of years 5 % of the energy has to be renewable. As Peru’s economy is growing and energy consumption as well, it will need to continue promoting renewable energies and auctioning new projects.
