  3. Tamworth Renewable Energy Grants • Below average energy savings (HECA returns) 9.8 % improvement in energy efficiency up to 2003 • Regulatory Reform Order implemented 2003 greater flexibility on spending HIP allocation • Housing Renewal Strategy renewable energy grants written into strategy

  4. Renewable energy grant • Discretionary grant • Only qualifying criteria • Resident of Tamworth • Not income based • To target fuel rich

  5. Grants • Solar water heating system • Grant covers 50% of total installation • Up to maximum of £1000 • Solar Photovoltaic system • Grants covers 25% of total installation • Up to maximum of £2000 • Refund planning costs

  6. Response • Initial uptake has been slow • Disappointed • Actively promoted since the start of the year

  7. Promotion • Designed leaflets and posters • Ran adverts in local newspaper • Platform board at local train station

Working in Partnership • six months raised just under £9k in referral money • Home Improvement budget is only £175 k • ringed fenced money • for energy efficiency measures • raise awareness of Tamworth residents • opportunity to install two wind turbines • high visibility • Snowdone and community centre the ARCH
