  4. Objective to emphasise the key role of universities development UNIVERSITY = EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION

  5. Higher Education – Central Tasks • equipping the big amount of students with education of the best quality; • training decent specialists; • training the considerable amount of practitioners (not only certain research scientists).

Efficiency of Students’ Scientific Work depends on: • the extent of quality and learner-centred definitive training in the very beginning of the university studies; • the qualification and capability of pedagogues to identify and to maintain the potential each of the students.   7. Who is a “Higher School Teacher”? This person • Has a deep knowledge in subject matter; • Is involved in research work; • Implements their scientific results as a matter of practice. The University Teacher Is NOT just a scientific worker The Higher School Teacher Deals with Students

  8. What is Teaching? Teaching any subject is the genuine and subtle art. It is essential to know WHAT HOW to teach

  9. Where will such university teachers come from? NOT FROM WITHOUT… The answer is: The university itself should prepare such experts. Source of teaching personnel: young people (succeed in disserting) apply for teaching.

  10. Pros and Cons Young People • gain the diverse body of knowledge related to their profession • become promising researchers in the long run • are not aware of common principles, up-to-date methods and practical approaches of effective teaching BUT

  11. How to Make a Good Teacher teach everything oneself using “cut and try method” OR have meaningful and comprehensive guided practice Let’s give a helping hand to those who do have the vocation for teaching and ready to pass on the torch to the young people

Solution of the Problem • Problem: establishment of purposeful training of qualified teaching personnel within the walls of universities. • Solution: organise an education program for postgraduate (PG) students who will have scientific preparation as well as guided practice of teaching. • Result: Thanks to this practice the PG school will take the fully legitimate and system-forming function.

MSU implementation strategy • Objective: implement educational program for teaching personnel preparation for higher school • Place: Moscow State University (MSU) • Faculty: Faculty of Educational Studies (the FES) • Date of establishment: on Rector’s initiative (Victor A. Sadovnichy) in 1997 • Students’ motivation:involved in research work and in varied spheres of science at different MSU faculties learn the ropes of the educational work principles
