Things to consider for College Search • Location (in-state or out-of-state) • Academic Reputation • Availability of Financial Aid • College Size • Attend University or College • Know what degree program they want to pursue. • Don’t forget to look into organizations such as Greek life, student councils…

  3. Continue….. • Consider the cost of attending college. • Cost is higher for out-of-state residents then In-state.

Things not to Consider for choosing the right college!! • My boyfriend/girlfriend is going there. • How good (or bad) a college's athletic teams are. • The school has the cheapest tuition and/or the best financial aid package. • A college search engine or guidebook says it's the right school for you. • My best friend is enrolling there. • Good eats . • Keep options open.

  6. Application advice!!! First off - finding the right college to apply to is extremely important. Considering your interests, strengths, and even extra-curricular activities can help you make this decision.

  7. College Application Tip #7 — Meet the Deadline Make sure all of your materials are in well before the deadline! Cont….. College Application Tip #1 — Application Form Find out which schools will allow you to fill out a common application for college admission and which ones require a specific form - just make sure the information is current and correct. College Application Tip #2 — High School Transcripts Request that transcripts from your high school be sent directly to the college in which you are applying to. College Application Tip #3 — Standardized Test Scores Determine whether the school requires the composite(ACT) or individual scores from your SAT test. College Application Tip #4 — Letters of Recommendation Get a list of recommendation letter requirements from the schools and ask a trusted teacher, boss or other acquaintance to write a letter of recommendation for you. College Application Tip #6 — Interviews Find out if your schools of choice offer interviews so you can speak with a representative for more in-depth information. College Application Tip #5 — Personal Essay Draft a personal essay in accordance with the schools' policies.

  8. How to write a College Application!! Create an outline - review all of the questions and consider exactly what each is asking. Then create an informal outline which lists your main ideas for each question. Outlines serve as an excellent resource to help you remember how you want to approach each question when you write your college admission essay. Make it personal - one of the most important details to remember of how to write a college admission essay is to make it personal. Do not write an essay which could have been written by any other applicant. To help ensure you stand out from other candidates, write your college admission essay from your own unique perspective so that, when read, the reader feels like they know you personally.

  9. How to write a College Application!! Be resourceful - it can often be difficult to produce distinctive ideas that will catch the eye of prospective readers. To help you devise a strategy, make use of the resources around you. Ask those who know you best for advice on how you can stand out when you write your college admission essay. Re-read any recommendation letters for inspiration and remember to incorporate accomplishments from your résumé into the essay. Build on information from your application - when you write your college admission essay, be sure to build upon information included in your application and résumé. Use specific examples and detailed information to give readers a distinct portrayal of your experiences and successes.

  10. How to write a College Application!! Follow guidelines - some basic college admission advice worth mentioning is to ensure you follow essay guidelines. By not adhering to even the smallest details, your essay may leave a negative impression in the minds of admission counselors. Appearance is important - your essay may serve as the foundation for whether or not you are admitted into the college of your choice, which is why it is very important that it has professional appearance. Double and triple-check for grammatical errors, spelling and punctuation rules to help make certain your essay appears neat and well-thought out. DON’T FORGET TO SAVE YOUR ESSAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don’t forget… • Just keep making those grades! • Don’t fail any classes, study and study! • Keep your eyes on the prize and STAY FOCUS! • Remember: Don't aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally.
