  1. My 3 Chosen Practitioners I have chosen 3 Logo Designers who inspire me and my type of work.

  2. Walter Landor • Walter Landor (1913-1995) was a German graphic designer belonging to Munich. Landor who was most popular for his creative FedEx logo design. • His FedEx logo design is considered to be one of the best logo designs in the world. • http://www.logoblog.org/wordpress/famous-logo-designers-creation/

  3. Walter Landor’s Influence • Young Walter was greatly influenced by the Bauhaus and Werkbund design movements flourishing in Germany during that period. • A visionary who pioneered the use of design and graphic imagery as business and marketing tools, Walter helped create and develop some of today’s best-known brands. • I find that Walters’ design influence is that his work is simple, clean and bold. He has made many influential logos which I admire, possibly because of the logo or just because I like the quality of the products. • http://www.logoblog.org/wordpress/famous-logo-designers-creation/

  4. Walter Landor's work in context • In 1935 he was a founding member of the Industrial Design Partnership. • One of Landor's biggest breaks was when he chosen to be part of the design team for the British pavilion at New York's World Fair,1939. • Landor pioneered consumer research, Logo design and many other important factors in the industry. • By the late 80’s Landor had set up seventeen offices worldwide as a leading international consultancy. • In 1994 the National Museum of American History in Washington established a collection of Landor's design work and packaging.

  5. Landor’s Logos The WWF logo has an appealing and positive image, which is seen as caring, responsible and credible. Look closely and you’ll see a hidden arrow between the ‘E’ and the ‘x’– a symbol for speed and precision. Landor’s team streamlined and simplified the symbol, resulting in an understated elegance

  6. Gerard Huerta • Gerard Huerta is a designer with one of the most versatile design portfolios. Not many graphic designers get the opportunity to apply their design skills in such vast areas as Gerard Huerta has done. His famous corporate logo designs include Swiss Army Brands, Calvin Klein’s Eternity, MSG Network, CBS Records Masterworks logo, The Atlantic Monthly and PC Magazine.

  7. Gerard Huerta’s Influence • Huerta is responsible for an astonishing number of the most iconic and recognizable logos in modern society. • Gerard has touched so many great venues in the publishing world.

  8. Gerard Huerta’s work in context • Began his professional career in 1974 as an album cover designer with CBS Records in New York. • He left CBS in 1976 to start Gerard Huerta Design, Inc. • He made the famous AC/DC lightening bolt logo. • After making logos for movies and recordings he did other projects including Swiss Army Knife, Pepsi and PC Magazine among many others.

  9. Gerard Huerta’s Logos The shape of the Pepsi logo is a globe, with two bright colors and a swirl in the middle, separating the two halves of the globe. The fonts are written alongside, giving it a simple structure. The AC/DC logo came about from Gerard because of one of the album titles ‘High Voltage’ , therefore he interpreted the typography using a lightning bolt.

  10. Saul Bass • SAUL BASS (1920-1996) was a renowned graphic designer of the 20th century. He was well known for designing film titles. His corporate logo designing included very successful brand identities like Bell Telephone System Communications, United Airlines, AT&T, Minolta, and Warner.

  11. Saul Bass Influences • The influence of graphic designer Saul Bass on pop culture can be seen virtually everywhere today. During his 40 year career he’s designed corporate logos for AT&T), Continental Airlines, Exxon, Kleenex, and United Airlines to name a few. • Saul has worked on logo designs and film poster design which I am also interested in. • http://cineleet.com/2008/03/16/the-inimitable-graphic-genius-of-saul-bass/

  12. Saul Bass Work in Context • He studied at the Art students League in Manhattan. He then studied with Georgy Keeps at Brooklyn College. • He began his work in Hollywood by creating film ads, until collaborating with film maker Otto Preminger to design a film poster for ‘Carmen Jones’. After Impressing Otto, Saul made the sequel poster as well. • Saul made many logos but his most famous is the AT&T logo made in 1983. • Saul went on to make many more film posters until 1981. • Sauls work has also inspired many new designers who have created posters in the style of Bass’ work, Clockers (1995) got praise but Bass saw it as ‘theft’.
