Completing a winning science fair project involves following the five essential steps of the scientific method: Question, Hypothesis, Procedure, Results, and Conclusion. Start by identifying what you want to learn and framing it as a question. Next, predict the outcome of your experiment with a hypothesis. Detail your procedures, keeping a record of observations and materials. Collect and analyze your results, noting any surprises. Finally, draw conclusions that clarify what you learned and whether your hypothesis was supported.

Scientific Method Five Steps to Completing a Winning Science Fair Project
Scientific Method • Question • Hypothesis • Procedure • Results • Conclusion
Question • Identify what you hope to find out • Things I want to know about • Things that interest me • You must state the problem in the form of a question • What if... • How would... • Why might...
Hypothesis • Predict the answer to the problem • What do you think is going to happen? • What will the outcome be? • What do you think the answer will be?
Procedure • List in order exactly what you will do to complete your project • List the supplies that you use • Describe what you are doing • Keep a written record of your observations and/or results • Add photos/drawings that help explain your project
Results • Record what you have observed or measurements you have taken • Note any mistakes, unusual or unexpected observations • Add any other information that you observe • Graphs and charts help to show your data
Conclusion • Describe what you have learned • It explains why your hypothesis is correct or incorrect • OR if you were unable to answer your original question
