  2. Genre: • A way of categorizing films. For example, a film may be in the horror, comedy or science fiction genre. • Conventions: • What we expect to see in a film of a certain genre. For example, you might expect to see lots of blood and scary things in a film in the horror genre

  3. Arrange the words into three categories. For example, horses and cowboy hat would go together. Futuristic costumes A dusty street Blood A hero Ghosts A masked man Steam train Outerspace Cowboy hat Screaming A sheriff Gang of outlaws Aliens Eerie music Time travel Laser guns A villain Evil A revolver Horses A haunted house Spaceships Robots Science Fiction Westerns Horror

  4. Film trailer activity Watch the three film trailers. Answer the questions for each trailer in your workbook. What is the film’s genre? How do you know? List the conventions used in the trailer. (E.g. blood, guns, bad guy etc.)
