Availability and Distribution of NRCan Real-Time Data Ken MacLeod, Tony Searle, Brian Donahue, Mike Craymer, Mike Schmidt and Mark Caissy
Overview • NRCan continuous tracking stations • Canadian Active Control Network • Regional Networks • Real-time Data Formats • Real-time Data Access Methods • Summary
Canadian Active Control Network • 19 stations available • GPS available from all • Glonass will be available from most this year • Most have external clocks • RTCM data format specifications require clock steering (+- 300m)
Continuously Operating Regional Networks • Great Lakes, St Lawrence, Eastern and Other Southern Canada Stations (17 stations), 13 have internet access and data could be made available in real-time • Northern regional stations (6 stations),would require either Internet or hardware upgrades • Western Canada Deformation Array – GSC (17 stations), 10 have internet access and could be made available. • Total of 23 stations from regional networks
Real-Time Data Formats • Station data will be available in RTCM 3.x format • RTCM is the standard format used by many RTK network operators • RTCM Message types • 1004(GPS Observations issued every second) • 1006 Antenna reference point issued every 10 seconds • 1008 Antenna Description issued every 10 seconds
Real-Time Data Format Continued • GPS Ephemeris planned (message type 1019) • Glonass message types planned :1012(Observations) and 1020 (Ephemeris) • RTCM State Space correction message planned • New High Precision RTCM Observation format planned
Data Access Methods • GSD is currently running a Network Transport of RTCM via Internet Protocol (NTRIP) Caster • Free NTRIP Clients are available • User requests a username and password and can access the NTRIP Caster • Some free NTRIP Client software to access data wirelessly is available.
Summary • Real-time Internet GNSS data is now widely available • NRCan could make 19 Stations available in real-time (beta test stage and best effort service). Other 23 could be made available if sufficient interest. • NRCan is looking for feedback from stakeholders • Questions
