RE We will be learning all about human responsibility for the environment and suffering • Understanding Physical Development, Health and Well-being • We will be practicing a range of athletics skills over the whole summer term. • Please remember that PE kits must be in school every day, including both indoor and outdoor shoes • We will develop our feelings and attitudes regarding ‘Relationships’. • We will also be talking about the transition to secondary school and preparing for the changes to come • Literacy • Reading Workshop – Daily activities, with a focus on comprehension skills and referring to the text • Grammar – daily consolidation of all the grammar skills learnt this year • Handwriting – Daily practice • Spelling – Test every Friday • Descriptive Writing – using powerful imagery to describe theme park rides • Persuasive Writing – adverts, brochures and arguments about theme parks and graffiti • Play-scripts – Shakespeare and performance • Big Writing – weekly independent writing challenge • Historical, Geographical and Social Understanding • We are learning to investigate our local area for suitable theme park locations, including map skills and conservation considerations! • We are learning about the history of theme parks in Britain and the way in which they have changed alongside advances in technology! • We will debate social issues regarding graffiti Creative Curriculum Year 6 Summer 2 Thrills and Spills • Scientific and Technological Understanding • We are learning about electrical circuits and will use motors, switches and gears to build a fairground ride run by batteries! • We are learning about forces and will investigate how forces work in the real world of theme parks! • We will learn about the reproductive cycle of plants and animals • Understanding the Arts • We are learning drawing techniques to capture speed and movement, and will create artwork inspired by theme park rides! • We are learning about spinning mechanisms and will design and build our own working fairground rides! • We are learning to compose themed music for theme park rides using notes and structures • We will create a graffiti mural to enhance an area of the school and learn about the famous graffiti artist Banksy Maths This half-term, we are working on a maths project that the children will take on to secondary school. They will invent maths board-games featuring problems from every area of the curriculum. In addition, we will continue with Big Maths and core number skills. MFL We will have an introduction to conversational French in preparation for secondary school ICT We will be exploring online modes of communication and learning about E-Safety

  2. Dear parents/carers, Somehow the last few weeks of your child’s time at primary school are upon us! This is a completely action-packed term and our topic ‘Thrills and Spills’ is a perfect way to finish things off with a bang. To prepare for secondary school, homework is set slightly differently in this half term. Your child will receive homework on random days to be handed in for set deadlines as an opportunity to practice homework management. Please do have a look at the Year 6 page on the school website. You will find curriculum information, photos of class activities and homework details. If you have any questions or concerns at all, please do not hesitate to speak to me. Please send in any small cardboard boxes, toilet/kitchen rolls/tubes and other materials that could be used to make rides, thank you!
