  1. A new thought of accessing wealth in the US

  2. Incredible Stats 1 • By the time they have been retired for two years, 78% of former NFL players have gone bankrupt or are under financial stress because of joblessness or divorce. • Within five years of retirement, an estimated 60% of former NBA players are broke. • Numerous retired MLB players have been similarly ruined 1 http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1153364/2/index.htm

  3. Why athletes go bankrupt? • Mostly, it starts with bad education and/or growing up in a poor neighborhood • Trust wrong people (many involved fraud cases) • Competitive nature & big ego (become next Magic Johnson) • Focus current time and life with all its benefits • Entourage (take care of them) • Family Matters (Divorce, Child support) • Not willing to listen or learn, rather looking for the next big thing (Real Estate, Private Equity, Hedge Funds etc.) • Invest in unprofitable business (car dealership, restaurants, music business, ventures etc.) • General investments in business without understanding the business or understanding what a business plan is • Have a less understanding of their financial situation • Change in earnings over time (bottom peak  bottom) & thus fail to transfer earnings into income

  4. Profile of a potential client • Athletes in their early 20s • One out of 1mn who made it • Large ego and trust in their self • Lots of people around them (mostly useless) • New shine and attraction • Earning lots of money in very short term • Mostly grew up in poor regions

  5. Value proposition • Value proposition of SFA holds • (Invest abroad, international portfolio, Swiss Wealth manager etc.) • Help clients to create a long-term financial planning • Evaluate investments in alternative investments (Hedge Fund, Private Equity, Real Estate) – UBS has global recognition in doing so • Value investments with the help of onshore business (car dealership in a certain region) • Regional Help in the United States • Additional advisor and financial planner in their region if required • Help on issues we can not cover from Switzerland • Educate athletes and people around them on financial planning, saving and investments • Comprehensive service and advice over years (typical Swiss Private bank relationship) • Help clients to stay solvent over the years

  6. How to increase share of wallet and increase diversification in client base In addition to increase the share of wallet, this diverse allocation of client and prospect base would help to shift the wheat from the chaff

  7. Various ways of tackling the market • Direct approach to athletes by visiting events, games etc. • Approach via events in the US for certain group of people • Indirect approach to athletes via 3rd party (such a AudemarsPiguet as sponsor for Lebron James) • Using existing client base • Approachingcollege and high schools • …to be defined further

  8. Adviserspersonality • Active person who likes and enjoys the US sports and US environment • Understand the situation and the background of the athletes • Be able to deal with clients from different angles • A athlete needs a different handling than an CEO • Gain trust from different prospect base • Again, a athletes needs a different trust base than an owner of a team • Copewith different issues • Connect between people and ask for getting connected • See possibilities, whereotherswouldstopdigging
