  2. WHY? – PHOTOGRAPHY AS A VOCATIONAL PROGRAM • “…There are various methods for making the curriculum more interesting, enjoyable and child-centered. Attempts have been made using media like puppetry, theatre, songs, games, etc. In this direction I have used photography to make subjects like the environment, heritage, nature, people, festivals, places, etc., more interesting and meaningful for children belonging to rural areas, slums, streets, schools and tribal areas…” • “…My experiments with children from different backgrounds proves that photography can become a rewarding and enriching method of learning. It also keeps children occupied with an a vocation while contributing to their creative expression, self-confidence and employment potential…” ______________________________________________________________________ Excerpts from “THE CULTURAL DIMENSION OF EDUCATION“ byShriRavi Chopra Chapter:Photography in Education Publisher:Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi. 3. WHY? – THE DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY & SOCIAL IMPACT • Invigorating Creativity: Children grow up in a very visual world and everything that they see helps develop their personality and character. A big portion of their learning development is in the visual aspect of their lives. Having children learn photography at an early age can therefore further fortify their progress, increase vocabulary and stimulate creativity. • Extra-Curricular Activity: Children may be able to further develop their expertise in school and extra-curricular organizations. This in turn can benefit the schools in complementing their resources. For example, a child who is particularly good at photography can be tasked to take pictures for the school paper or cover events in and out of the school. • Beneficial to Parents: It is also beneficial to parents in other way. It creates a meaningful and productive past-time for their children, which may be considered as an after-school activity. Parents can worry less about their children playing violent video games and/or browsing inappropriate websites on the Internet. 4. HOW?– THE BRIEF CONCEPT • Photography workshops which will also focus to enhance the visual and aesthetic skills among children. • Photo-walks and nature camps to make photography more interesting by which children can connect with their curriculum more practically e.g. environment, history, biology etc. (accompanied by the subject teachers). • Exhibition-cum-sale of the photographs captured by the students as a fund raising program for the development of the school. • It may also propose to conduct soloexhibitions-cum-sale of photographs of Dr. Kaushik Ghosh in Delhi and Kolkata (any other cities) as a part of fund raising program for the development of school. The amount will be shared between both in equal proportion. "Let's Introspect" - Photovisual workshops for School Children by Kaushik Ghosh

  5.
