NWP-SAF CDOP-1 Headline deliverables: • RTTOV (all historical / current sensors + basic PC capability) • HSRIRS tools (AIRS/IASI clouds and aerosol detection and PC support) • diverse profiles datasets (high resolution T,Q,O3,V,cloud/rain trace gas and aerosols) • monitoring (all current sensors + auto alert) • Workshops (bias correction/ IASI)

NWP-SAF CDOP-2 Headline deliverables: • RTTOV (all historical / current sensors + all sky PC capability, VIS/NIR, climate support) • HSRIRS tools (AIRS/IASI/MTG radiance and PC clouds/ aerosols detection and discrimination and PC tools) • diverse profiles datasets (very high spatial resolution T,Q,O3,V,cloud/rain + improved /climate trace gas sampling from MACC/ERA) • monitoring (all current / climate and reprocessed sensors + auto alert extended to PC observations from IASI / MTG) • Workshops (TBC) and new satellite NWP training course

GRAS SAF CDOP-1 Headline deliverables: • Operational monitoring of GRAS, COSMIC, GRACE-A, TerraSAR-X, SAC-C and C-NOFS. • Software in ROPP: • Two-dimensional bending angle operator released in ROPP-4. • Non-ideal gas effects included in all bending angle and refractivity operators in ROPP-5 (Release July, 2011). • GRAS SAF workshop on “Applications of GPS radio occultation measurements”. Recommended the formation of IROWG. • Investigated reanalysis applications of GPSRO. • Supported the validation of GRAS (von Engeln, GRL, 2009).

  6. GRAS SAF CDOP-2 Headline deliverables: • Continue operational monitoring and ROPP development. • Support the validation of GRAS on Metop-B with data assimilation experiments. • Second workshop on the Applications of GPS radio occultation measurements. • Derive new climate products from the “GPS radio occultation reanalysis” • Run the reanalysis system using just conventional and GPS radio occultation measurements since 2001. The “anchor measurements”. • Produce monthly mean temperature climatologies and contribute to international projects such as “ROtrends”. • Time series of (passive) radiance departures.

H-SAF CDOP • H-SAF CDOP-1(Sep.2010- Feb.2012) Headline deliverables: • Combine ASCAT SM (Soil Moisture) and snowcover extent satellite data in the Extended Kalman Filter surface analysis • Continuous Operational Monitoring of the ASCAT CAF SSM • Development of a liquid soil moisture profile INDEX for H-SAF:  SM-DAS-2 (= SM-ASS-2) • SM-DAS-2 operational H-SAF product by the end of CDOP-1. • Validation of SM-DAS-2 • Inter-SAF synergy: Land-SAF (ETR product) • European:GMES/ERA-Clim, GlobSnow, Geoland-2

H-SAF CDOP and CDOP-2 • H-SAF CDOP-2 Headline deliverables: • Enhanced Operational Monitoring of the ASCAT CAF product and NRT feedback: • Automatic Alert System (development and implementation proposed for H-SAF CDOP-2) • Root zone profile index and Snow satellite data in EKF to improve SM product quality • Re-processing of root soil moisture index profile in ECMWF LDAS (TCDR) for climate applications • Synergy with ESA/SMOS; preparation of SMAP (NASA)
