  3. Emergency – Morning After Pill • Can be taken up to 5 days after unprotected sex • Commonly administered after: • Rape • Inebriated • Condom or contraception broke • Prevents woman’s egg from releasing • Thins lining around uterus so a fetus couldn’t attach

Emergency - Adoption • Not ready to raise a child • Financially • Emotionally • Usually can choose open or closed adoption • Open allows you to communicate with adoptive parents • Closed legally forbids you to know anything about the child • Why might adoption not be for you? • Attachment at birth • Morally can’t give up child • Concern for child’s future • Have to have both parents’ consent

Emergency - Abortion • Methods: • Pill/Injection • Can be taken only during the first 8 weeks • Blocks necessary hormones the fetus needs • Fetus drops of and leaves body vaginally • Suction • Can be done up to 24 weeks pregnant but some states have stricter laws • Dr. inserts tube vaginally to remove placenta and fetus from uterus • Partial Birth Abortions - • Last 3 months of pregnancy • Used saline to flood womb
