  1. Hardware Commissioning ReviewBDI Equipment R. Jung, on behalf of the BDI LHC Technical Board

  2. Hardware Commissioning Review& BDI Equipment • BDI equipment is not part of the Hardware commissioning proper • BDI may/will interfere with the Hardware Commissioning due to late monitor deliveries • BDI equipment is mainly concerned by the commissioning with BEAM • Different categories, with different impact: • Large distributed systems over whole LHC • Many specialised systems in small numbers around IP4, injection and dump extraction

  3. BDI systems installed in LHC tunnel • Two big distributed systems: BPM & BLM • Two Luminosity Stations: IP1 & IP5: US LARP: pb • Special systems at Injections & Extractions/Dump lines • Many special systems installed around IP4: • BCTs: Fast and DC monitors • Special Pick-ups for Tune, Chromaticity • Transverse Profile Monitors: BTV, BWS, BSRT, BGIH/V • Longitudinal Profile Monitors: WCM Our reference: Sylvain Weisz’s planning Our Aim: ready for the LHC start-up: July 2007

  4. Large Distributed Systems • BPMs: • Arcs: follow SSS planning: OK • Others: Just In Time : BPM_A Q7R8 • Warm BPMs: may be JIT for LSS8 end • Electronics: small pb with delay lines order & deliv: • 4 cards/Q may have to be installed later: access needed • BLMs: • 4000 ICs production will start in Prodvino: ~JIT; if not: install 2 ICs / Q and come back later: Access • Last IC installation after interconnect closure only • IC on passage to be installed after last transport • ~340 SEMs for SSS, IR3 & 7, after IC production

  5. Special & Small Quantity Systems [IP4] • BCTs • Available for installation in June/July 2006 • Special Pick-Ups • JIT, including Schottkyfor the moment • Transverse profile Monitors • BTV in IP4 + elsewhere in ring & dump: JIT for IP8R • Wire Scanners: JIT • BSRT: JIT • BGIH/V: fragile equipment to be installed as late as possible • Longitudinal Profile monitors: RF WCM: OK Interference with start of RF tests [15/06/06] Little interference with RF commissioning: 11/06 – 5/07

  6. Open questions: IP4 & Dump Lines • IP4: Access to UA43 & 47 (ex klystron galleries) during RF tests & commissioning: shielding • Dump Lines • Exact location & dimension of vacuum chambers for BCT and screens to be defined with AT/VAC and AB/BT to start ASAP the mechanical design of these BCTs and special large screen[ROI] BTVs. • Planning
