The Evolution and Future of the Lanka Educational and Research Network (LEARN)

The Lanka Educational and Research Network (LEARN) was proposed to the University Grants Commission (UGC) to connect universities and research institutions in Sri Lanka. Established in 1990 with LEARNMail, the first email service, it evolved with grants that connected major universities by 1995. Managed by a dedicated committee, LEARN now serves 11 universities with a bandwidth of 2.5 Mbps and offers various services. Future plans include connecting more institutions, implementing e-learning, video conferencing, and expanding bandwidth capacity to enhance educational collaboration nationwide.
