Summary • Still café- Lahore • Changez Observes attractive girls around him and refers to the American girl he loved. • Met Erica in Greece on university holidays • Changez was bothered by the Americans and how they acted • Went to Rhodes-fortress like history • The American is unnaturally aware of bearded customer and notices scantily dressed girls which surprises him
Character Development • Changez starts exploring what Americans are like and takes an interest into American women • Erica was introduced
Memories Explored • Changez memories on Erica was that she was regal, tiara-hair, very popular girl but she likes him and his anachronistic ways, he likes her beauty, muscles and tanned stomach. • Erica mentions to Changez, Chris, her boyfriend “with long skinny fingers” that died from lung cancer- Changez automatically becomes more sympathetic towards Erica and her emotions although Erica has an opposite reaction and begins to distance herself from Changez as she is struggling to let go of the past and move on with the future.
Does Changez stereotype the people around him as much as he believes they stereotype him? Not to the extent of the American’s although he was a little bothered by free spending of money by young Americans and the way they were disrespectful to their elders and the poorer.
