Possum • The verb possum, posse, potui is a verb of ability—meaning “(I am/you are/he is able.” • The verb is accompanied by a complimentary infinitive, just as with the verb debeo, debere, debui, debitum (ought) • Examples: • Ambulare possum. (I am able to walk [sometimes].) • Lupus non teneripotest. (The wolf is not able to be held.)
