2. Millennium Development Goals 1. Eradicate Extreme Hunger • Number of people living on less than $1.25 a day reduced: 1.9 billion in 1990 to 836 million in 2015 2. Achieve Universal Primary Education • Enrolment rate up from 83% in 2000 to 91% 2015 • Children in conflict affected countries face huge obstacles to education
3. Millennium Development Goals 3. Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women • Girls face high risk of sexual abuse at home, at school and every part of life. Forced early marriage and pregnancy often destroys chance of education 4. Reduce Child Mortality • Down from 90 to 43 deaths per 1,000 live births • 1 out of every 10 children dies before the age of five. Only 2 of 35 fragile states on track to meet MDG 4

Improve Maternal Health • Down from 330 per 100,000 live births to 210 in 2013 • 1 in 22 mothers still die in pregnancy and childbirth in Africa • 50% of pregnancies are unplanned and 25% are unwanted 6. Combat HIV AIDS Malaria and Other Diseases • Target to halt, begin to reverse spread of HIV/Aids by 2015 not been met, but number of new HIV infections fell by 40% 2000 - 2013. • Children in conflict-affected countries at risk of diseases, especially children under 5, due to poor sanitation and lack of hygiene education.

Ensure Environmental Sustainability • 2.6 billion people have gained access to improved drinking water since 1990, 5 years ahead of schedule. • 663 million people still no access to improved drinking water. 8. Develop a Global Partnership for Development • 2000 - 2014, overseas development assistance from rich nations to developing countries increased by 66% in real terms, in 2013 reached the record figure of $134.8bn (£80.3bn)
