  2. Question 1

  3. Solution 1 C If you distribute answer C the expressions will be equivalent

  4. Question 2

  5. Solution 2 D Answer A is wrong and answer C is wrong because 7m – 28 is not equal to 7m + 28. When you COMBINE LIKE TERMS for answer D, you get the correct answer. -5m – 29 + 12m + 1 7m – 29 + 1 7m - 28

  6. Question 3

  7. Solution 3 A This equilateral triangle has 3 sides. The perimeter is 3x + 6 and it must be cut up into 3 equal pieces. So if we do , we will get x + 2 which is the answer the same as answer A.

  8. Question 4

  9. Solution 4 D If you simplify all the answers they will all come out to 10a – 4. However D is 4 – 10a. Answers A B and C have a positive coefficient while D has a negative coefficient.

  10. Question 5

  11. Question 5

  12. Solution 5 D This problem asks you to use the distributive property to solve all the answers. When you distribute (double rainbow), you should find that D is the only answer possible.

  13. Question 6

  14. Solution 6 B Percent means out of 100. So 37.5% is equal to . Mrs. Barrett always asks you what “of” usually means and it is usually multiplication. Therefore,

  15. Question 7

  16. Solution 7 C Increased means to add. We are adding 12.5% of M not just 12.5 so what is 12.5% of M? 12.5% of M = 0.125M Therefore M increased by 12.5% is M + 0.125M

  17. Question 8

  18. Solution 8 B The question asks you who has the MOST. This means we are comparing numbers. Paul ate 4 out of 6 = 4/6 = 0.66 Yasmine ate 0.375 Tracy ate 55% = 0.55 Ronnie ate 5/6. Ronnie ate more than Paul so Ronnie is now the answer. Yasmine ate the least so she has the most left!

  19. Question 9

  20. Solution 9 D 4(x – 3) – 7x ≥ 6 (Distribute) 4x – 12 – 7x ≥ 6 (Combine Like Terms) -3x – 12 ≥ 6 (Add 12 to both sides) -3x ≥ 18 (Divide by -3 and flip the sign) X ≤ -6 Remember when you multiply or divide by a negative number, your sign must flip

  21. Question 10

  22. Solution 10 D 4x + 9 ≥ -11 (Subtract 9 to both sides) 4x ≥ -20 (-11 – 9 =-20 INTEGER RULES) X ≥ -5 (Divide by 4) Since 4 is a positive number, the sign stays the same.

  23. Question 11

  24. Solution 11 A We want an answer that reflects the entire student body as much as possible. Answer C and D would not fit. Answer A only asks students that eat in the cafeteria for lunch. Answer B would be the best choice since it has the word “randomly.” Answer B asks different types of students so it’s a better representation.

  25. Question 12

  26. Solution 12 C C is the only answer that is True because out of the two different classes, basketball has the highest numbers.
