  1. Good Morning, Precalculus! When you come in, please.... 1. Grab a "Quarter 1 Reflection" at the front of the room. 2. Complete this as your DO NOW. 3. Take out your notes and something to write with. Do Now: Complete the quarter 1 reflection.

  2. Upcoming HW Assignments For Tomorrow: 1. record definition of "Logarithmic function" from the bottom of pg. 718. 2. Record info about logarithmic functions at the top of pg. 719 (in yellow box) For Wednesday: Pg. 708, #8 and #9.

  3. Today's Agenda: 1. Do Now 2. Today's Objective 3. Unit 4, Obj. 1, Pt. 2: Exponential Growth and Decay 4. Whiteboards! 5. Exit Slip 6. Unit 3 Test Results

  4. Today's Objective Unit 4, Objective 1: I will be able to analyze and graph exponential functions and solve problems using exponential functions. (Day 2)

  5. Unit 4, Obj. 1 Cont.: Exponential Growth & Decay

  6. Exponential Growth & Decay When a function loses value exponentially over time, the graph exhibits exponential decay. Example: the rate at which an object cools.

  7. Exponential Growth & Decay When a function increases exponentially over time, the graph exhibits exponential growth. Ex: the population of people or animals in the world.

  8. Exponential Growth & Decay The general form of exponential growth and decay can be summarized as below:

  9. Whiteboards!

  10. ON THE WHITEBOARD A bank account starts with $500 in it. The
account grows by 1% each month. How much money will be in the account at the end of 6 years?

  11. ON THE WHITEBOARD You have a gift card with $100 on it. The card
company charges a 5% maintenance fee
every month. If you don't spend any money, how much money will be left on the card after two years?

  12. ON THE WHITEBOARD A car's value depreciates (loses value) at a
rate of 7% each year. The car was worth
$26,000 when it was new. How much will the car be worth in 8 years?

  13. Exit Slip

  14. Exit Slip Objective: Unit 4, Obj. 1 The average growth rate of the population of a city is 7.5% per year. If the city's population is now 22,750 people, what do you expect the population to be in 10 years? You don't need to write the question, but show all work! Not trying it out is not acceptable!

  15. Closing

  16. Closing Unit 4, Obj. 1: I will be able to graph and analyze exponential functions and solve problems using exponential functions. -What are some points you have learned about the objective? -How are exponential growth & decay related to this objective?

  17. Unit 3 Test Results Average: 65.8%
