  1. Structure Of Teeth Teeth sometimes called with many nicknames: pearly whites, chompers, chicklets. But there is no matter how you refer to them, don't forget their importance. Teeth perform several functions. Along with chewing food for digestion, they also assist with word pronunciation while providing shape to the face. Knowing your teeth structure is just as important when it comes to maintaining good oral care. The tooth is divide into two anatomical parts; the crown and the root. The crown is the upper part of the tooth that is normally visible in the mouth (above the gum line). The shape of the crown decide the function of the tooth. The root of a tooth is the lower part embedded in the jaw. It anchorsgrip the tooth in its bony socket and is normally not visible (below the gum line). The gum line is the joint, where the tooth and gums meet. The tooth is supported by the tissue consisting of the alveolar bone, gums and the periodontal ligament are described below. Enamel isthe hard outer layer, covering the surface of the dental crown. But it can decay if teeth are not cared for properly.

  2. Dentine is softer as compare to enamel, forms the bulk of the tooth and can be sensitive, if the protection of the enamel is lost. Pulp Soft tissue consist blood and nerve supply of the tooth. The pulp extends from the crown to the tip of the root where it connects to the nerves and blood supply of the mouth. This pulp enables to you to feel sensations of tooth sensitivity or pain. Cementum The layer of bone-like tissue covering the surface of the tooth root. It also not hard as enamel. Periodontal ligament: The periodontal ligament tissue is responsible for attaching the tooth to the jaw bone. It is made up of thousands of fibres which fasten the cementum to the bony socket. These fibers tissue anchor tight the tooth to the jaw bone. It helps to prevents force applied to the tooth and work as shock absorbers for the tooth, which is subjected to heavy forces during chewing. Gingivae (gums): Gums are the soft tissue that immediately surrounds the teeth and bone. It hleps in protection of bone and the roots of the teeth and provides an easily lubricated surface. Bone: Acts as a socket to surround and support the roots of the teeth.
