  2. Overview • Dates back to about 12,000 BC to about 300 BC. • The name derived from the “chord markings” that characterize the ceramics made during this time. • The Jomon people were semi-sedentary, living in pit dwellings. • They obtained their food by gathering, hunting, and fishing.
