    13. People in the Program The goal of the MSU College of Education is to provide an opportunity for ex-patriots to complete a graduate program in education. If there is room in the program they let people like me in. Plain old Americans.

    16. CAMBODIA Political rally in Phnom Penh Mekong River in upper left Cambodia has been a democracy since 1979.

    17. Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge Soon after Saigon fell in 1975 the Khmer Rouge seized control of Cambodia. Pol Pot set out to destroy all traces of foreign influence in Cambodia. Since most city dwellers had come into contact with foreigners, Khmer Rouge soldiers forced all foreigners out of the city. Between 1975 & 1979, 2 million of the nations 7 million people were executed or killed by famine.

    31. Next Stop Myanmar Burma won independence from Britain in 1949. In 1962, the Burmese army seized power and General Ne Win became the dictator. Ne Win renamed the country Myanmar, Burmese words for country and people recognizing the nations many ethnic groups. In 1990, free elections were held. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, daughter of a Burmese nationalist won in a landslide. She has yet to take power.
