What is motion?. Chapter 15, Lesson 1. Motion. It is a change of position. When you change your position you move. Motion can be fast or slow. Types of motion. Straight line motion Back and forth motion (swings) Up and down motions on seesaws. Round and round motion Zigzag motion.

  2. Motion It is a change of position. When you change your position you move. Motion can be fast or slow.

  5. Positions Every object has a position or location (place) The school bus stops at the same position everyday. You sit in your classroom at the same position everyday.

  6. Distance A. .B Distance is how far it is from one location to another. It’s measured in centimeters, inches, yards, kilometers or miles

  7. Direction and time North East West South An important thing to know is the direction of the motion. for example, I’m driving my car east from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah.

  8. Some other words to describe direction is, up, left, right, down…..etc.  Time is a measure of how long it takes for an object to move from one location to another. Time is often measured in seconds. Other units are minutes, hours, days, and years.

  9. Speed • Speed is the distance an object moves in a certain period of time. • We can find speed using both distance and time. • Speed = distance ______________ time

  10. Two objects A and B traveled for one hour, object A moved a distance of 120 Km. And object B moved a distance of 90 Km. which one was faster?
