  1. Distinctly BAPTIST

  2. What makes Baptists different from other denominations? • Baptists are not the one true denomination. • We share many core beliefs with many other denominations. • Our distinguishing characteristic: the whole of our belief & practice.

  3. How do we know if we are right? The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy. It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.

  4. How do we know if we are right? We can only be right when we continually challenge our doctrine & practice of life by the Scriptures. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - all Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

  5. How do we know if we are right? • We can only be right when constantly allow Scripture to correct errors in our theology, doctrine, and practice. • Hebrews 4:12 - the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. • Delivered us from the horrors of slavery. • Delivered us from the clutches of liberalism. • Delivered us from the pain of legalism.

  6. How do we know if we are right? • We can only be right when the Scripture constantly challenges us to clearly define our beliefs and practices. • What is a Christian? • What is the Church?

  7. What is a Christian? • How do you become one? • You must give an account: Soul competency. • God made us alive in Christ: Salvation • What do you do now that you are one? • Walk in the Spirit, be led by the Spirit, be filled with the Spirit. • You are Priests: Priesthood of the believer • You will be My witnesses: Evangelism & missions

  8. What is the Church? • Who makes up the church? • From death to life: regenerate church membership. • Appealing to a clear conscience: Baptism • How does the church function? • It is an organism not an organization. • Placed in the body by God: Pastors, deacons, lay people • Do this in remembrance of Me: the Lord’s Supper • What is the church’s purpose? • You shall receive power: Evangelism • Teach them to observe what I command: Discipleship • You are a city on a hill: glorifying God throughgood works
