  4. Technology

  5. Overview of Technology The R.K.B. Ultraviolet Coat Resistive Inspection Technology provides the most cost effective, real time, detection and classification of coating skips as small as 1/16" (1.5mm) diameter in any translucent web material that has ultraviolet resistive coating applied to it.  The coating, which acts as an opaque barrier, prevents the ultraviolet light from reaching the sensing heads.  When a skip, as well as a hole, passes by the ultraviolet light, UV will then transmit to the sensing heads where defect signal processing is performed.  The sensing head technology consists of a small, water-tight enclosure which contains the main sensor and associated signal processing circuitry.

  6. Overview of Technology A small encapsulated window in the sensing head allows the ultraviolet light to enter into the unit through a narrow band interference filter.  This filter then converts the ultraviolet light to visible light that is identified by the sensor and processed.  This specialized interference filter eliminates the "noise" created by ambient light therefore eliminating any need to mask mill lighting. Outputs produced by this technology can be used for control or activation of audio/visual alarms, counters, sorters, reject gates and other types of equipment.

  7. Overview of Technology the R.K.B. Ultraviolet Coat Skip Detection Technology as all of it's processing technologies contained in a single NEMA 12 rated industrial enclosure.  This integrated control center facilitates both installation (By eliminating several time consuming connections) and operation (by improving accessibility and maintenance in one location).  Lighting and sensing technology controls, power supplies, detection threshold handling, engineering workstation w/oscilloscope and digital processing technologies are all located in this convenient free standing console.

  8. Overview of Technology Defect size classification are standard in all technologies and allow for the removal of larger defects considered rejectable from salable product.  Additionally, the detection and monitoring of the smallest possible defects allow production the ability to monitor process machine performance, schedule proper preventative maintenance of defect causing areas and allow for production grading of material should a threshold of small defects per roll exceed a present quality limit.  All defects are classified, channelized and separated into individual reporting algorithms with location in both the cross machine and machine direction, time the event took place and size of the event.

  9. Overview of Technology Repeating defect detection and defect size classification capabilities are included with each Ultraviolet Coat Skip Detection Solution.  Large defect identification allows for removal, splicing or patching from salable material.  Small defect monitoring provides what some web material manufacturers consider valuable production analysis on overall process machinery operation and potential maintenance initiatives.  Our innovative on-line performance verification system allows operators and maintenance personnel to quick verify each sensing head and related processing technologies for operational aspects while on-line.  Our proprietary lamp failure alarms will notify operational staff if one or more of the technologies lamp sources has failed.  Our Quality Assurance Management System (QAMS) software can also be added to the system to provide:

  10. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures State of the art Sensing Head utilizing sophisticated photocell technology and digital processing circuitry

  11. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures NEMA Enclosure Housing the sensing circuitry, proprietary filter and Unique Sensitivity auto calibrate functions which ensure 100% uniform inspection of the web.

  12. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures Installation areas in most cases are prior to the take up reel (commonly referred as the jumbo roll) at the end of web material processing. Most installations should be after the basis weight gauging unit as picking can occur from gauge guides.

  13. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures Detection methodology of the Ultraviolet Hole Detector makes it the most efficient, durable and reliable hole detector in the world. From its unique design, the technology is also the most cost effective.

  14. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures Patented lamp housing design provides for complete equalization of sensing in the cross direction as compared to competitive solutions.

  15. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures Hardware based operational controls use for setup, alarm and defect location as a standard backup to CPU diagnostics which run parallel ensuring detection is never down should any software or hard disk issues arise.

  16. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures Integrated control enclosures and operational control centers. NEMA rated, these enclosures contain all the operational CPU systems, electronic signal processing circuitry and related components. Both enclosures contain closed loop self contained air condition systems which maintain the operational environment at consistent temperature. The display enclosure is formatted as a stand alone unit with touchscreen functions with optional remote station integration capabilities.

  17. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures Opto isolated distribution modules are standard for parallel processing of defect signals and related to PLC units

  18. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures Proprietary Lamp Housing Design using specialty designed UV lamps

  19. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures Environmental Sound Inspection Assembly

  20. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures Premium DC Voltage Supplies

  21. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures Durable and specialized Audio/Visual Alarm Systems

  22. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures Integrated Signal Processing Systems housing the engineering workstation where all analog/digital processing is performed. As part of the serviceability of RKB systems, each system comes complete with a dual channel oscilloscope and various testing points to ensure reliable operational and serviceability is maintained.

  23. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures • Military type connections ensure solid electrical specifications are maintained and environmental protection is achieved.

  24. Coat Skip DetectorFeatures • Meets quality initiative and ISO requirements. • Detection 24/7 without the need for operational intervention. • Eliminate the need for manual inspections.
