  2. Candidate Statement (334 words) As an artist, I enjoy exploring and experimenting with various artistic techniques, forms and styles. Through my journey as an IB Art student, I have learned that all art pieces have some kind of intention behind them. All artwork is created by intention, whether it is to convey a special message to the audience, or merely to release and express emotions as an artist. Similarly, I aspire to experiment with as many techniques and tools to effectively display my thoughts. What I love about art is it allows my mind to move into a state of liberation from anxiety and stress. Personally, as an artist, I enjoy creating artwork because it allows me to actively engage my mind and send significant messages through my own emotions and creativity. To select what materials to use in my artwork, I decide what works most appropriately to effectively demonstrate the message I wish to convey to the viewer. The main connection between my artwork is the theme of stories and influences. To portray messages related to my main theme, I like to use various types of medium that are some how significant to the message I desire to send. One specific artist who has inspired my artwork is Joe Martino, an abstract expressionist artist who is known for his very unique, textured art pieces. When I first started the IB Art course, I found myself lost and disorientated as I had difficulty finding a way to connect all of my art pieces. I realized that my artwork must have some similar link or relation to each other to give an identification of my own. Now that I have found a connection, I plan to experiment more with types of art medium that I was once afraid to use such as oil paints, clay and water colors. I have noticed that a great amount of my artwork consists of mainly acrylic paintings, which is why I must expand and experiment more to create art that best allows me to demonstrate my best artistic ability. As a growing artist, there is always room for improvement and learning new artistic techniques.
