  1. 7TH Grade • Students: • Visit with school counselor ask for help in selecting classes that will prepare you for college • Make an extra effort in English and Math classes, strive for As in all your classes. • Parent(s)/Guardian(s): • Ask counselor if your child is reading and doing math at grade level. • Start saving for college, if you have not done so already.

  2. 8th Grade • Students: • If available, Take Pre-Algebra or Algebra and a foreign language course. • Strive for As and Bs in all your classes. • Stay focused on your classes and homework. • Sign up for PSAT, offered in 8th or 9th grade. • Parent(s)/Guardian(s): • Meet with counselor and or teachers to see how your child is doing in his/her classes. • Visit college campuses. Talk to neighbors and friends with students in college to learn about their experiences. • Talk to your child about the importance of studying hard and getting good grades to prepare them for high school and college

High School • Classes Students Should Take: • English – 4 years College Prep. • Math – 4 years, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II, Calculus • History and Social Sciences – 2 years, to include U.S. History, American Government • Lab Sciences – 2 years, to include Biology and Physical Science • Language (other than English) – 2years of the same language • Visual and Performing Arts – 1 year of drama or theater, dance music or visual art • College Prep Elective – 1 year of any other college prep subject
