  5. Functional MRI • הBOLD signal- משקף שינויים בצרכים מטבוליים של אוכלוסיות גדולות של נוירונים אשר גורמים לשינויים בהספקת דם מקומית לרקמה: • השינויים בזרימת הדם גורמים לעליה ברמת החמצן באיזור הפעיל • לדם מחומצן תכונות מגנטיות - מפריע לשדה המגנטי • לכן - באזור הפעיל הסיגנל נמוך יותר

  6. חשוב לזכור • המדידה היא עקיפה: מודדים זרימת דם, לא פעילות עצבית • בגלל האיטיות היחסית של שינויים בזרימת דם ה-BOLD משקף אינטגרציה של פעילות לאורך מספר שניות (גם אם הדגימה מנירה יותר) • השוואה בין קבוצות (חולים / בריאים) מתבססת על הנחה של צימוד נוירו-וסקולרי שווה בין הקבוצות. מכאן השאלה באיזה אופן פעילות עצבית מווסתת זרימת דם?
