  3. AIVL AGM 2008 - Tasmanian Report Key Recommendations in ‘Review’ of Relevance to Consumers Recommendation 15: Establish a support service to advocate on behalf of clients using A&D services in Tasmania. Recommendation 21: Develop a mechanism to encourage and utilise consumers in the development of future policy and service delivery approaches within Tasmania.

  4. AIVL AGM 2008 - Tasmanian Report Key Points in ‘Future Directions’ of Relevance to Consumers Governance, Planning and Policy Development • Tasmania does not currently have a formal process to determine whole of government policy and direction in relation to alcohol and drug issues in the State. • There is no mechanism to involve consumers in the planning and development of policies for the alcohol, tobacco and other drug sector. • There is very limited dedicated alcohol and drug research that is locally based in Tasmania. • Some alcohol and drug issues in Tasmania are unique and may require alternative interventions/services to address those issues – these need to be evidence based and supported by research.

  6. AIVL AGM 2008 - Tasmanian Report Key Points in Letter Received from DHHS “One of the key strategies.…..will be the establishment of an advocacy support service for people with an alcohol and drug issue. The Department recognises the important role that advocacy support plays in an effective service system and as such sees the development of the service as a high priority. The Department is currently working to develop guidelines for an advocacy service and is hoping to tender the service before the end of the year. If a tender is selected it is anticipated that the service would be operational early next year”
