  9. Class Schedule

  10. PBS in our Classroom and Home Expectations • The Four Practices of The FISH! Philosophy • Be There • Be emotionally present for people. It’s a powerful message of respect that improves communication and strengthens relationships. • Play • Tap into your natural way of being creative, enthusiastic and having fun. Play is the spirit that drives the curious mind, as in “Let’s play with that idea!” You can bring this mindset to everything you do. • Make Their Day • Find simple ways to serve or delight people in a meaningful, memorable way. It’s about contributing to someone else’s life—not because you want something, but because that’s the person you want to be. • Choose Your Attitude • Take responsibility for how you respond to what life throws at you. Your choice affects others. Ask yourself: “Is my attitude helping my team or my customers? Is it helping me to be the person I want to be?”

  11. Grade Level Standards • Academic standards define the knowledge and skills that students are expected to learn in a subject in each grade. Academic standards are designed to provide a clear path for students to gain the proficiency that is required to learn increasingly complex material in the next grade. Students who learn the knowledge and skills defined by the academic standards, year after year, are on track to graduate from high school on time and ready to enter college or the workforce. • Academic standards define what students need to know but not how students learn or how teachers teach. Teachers use the academic standards to develop lesson plans, assignments and assessments that help their students master the knowledge and skills defined by the academic standards. • Louisiana defines academic standards in seven subjects, including English language arts (reading and writing), math, science, social studies, foreign languages, physical education and health.

  12. Diagnostic testing • During the week of August 19, 2019 through September 13, 2019 Alton Elementary School will administer Diagnostic Testing for 4th and 5th grade students. • Students will be tested in the following subjects: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. • 5th grade students will take English Language Arts and Mathematics Diagnostic tests on computer. Science and Social Studies Diagnostic tests are paper based tests. • 4th grade students Diagnostic tests are all paper based tests.

  13. 3rd – 5th grade assessments • Students will have weekly assessments in all content areas. • The grading scale is as follows: • 100-93=A • 92-85=B • 84-75=C • 74-67=D • 66-0=F

  14. Dibels (3rd grade ONLY) • The DIBELS test has several components. In third grade, theDIBELS test assesses oral reading fluency (DORF), reading accuracy, the student's ability to retell information about the passage they read and the quality of their retell, and finally their ability to make predictions in text while they are reading (DAZE).

  15. LEAP Assessments • The state testing window for grades 3-8 will begin March 30 – May 1, 2020 • The all third - fifth grade students will take the LEAP this school year. LEAP will consist of ELA, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. • 5th grade students LEAP is a computer-based test which will be timed. • Testing will consist of essay, multiple choice, multi-select questions, constructed responses and tasks where evidence needs to be provided. • Practice LEAP Assessments, which can be found online at, https://www.louisianabelieves.com/resources/library/practice-tests will aid in familiarizing students and parents with the LEAP format and question types.

  16. Computer Based Instructional Support • Achieve 3000 is computer-based program used to increase reading comprehension, writing and online test taking strategies. • MobyMax is a computer-based program that is designed to help struggling learners quickly catch up to grade level and close learning gaps for all your students. Moby Max covers all subjects, has adaptive differentiation, student motivation, and classroom tools. • ZearnMath is a computer-based program which provides a uniquely integrated approach to math teaching and learning, connecting a rigorous curriculum with a cohesive classroom system, and actionable reports on student learning. This approach recognizes that top-rated instructional materials are most impactful when they are deeply integrated into classroom systems and teacher learning communities. ZearnMath is designed to create daily math instruction that is differentiated and engaging in order to ensure all children love learning math.
