Overview of 10th Grade • Not Freshmen anymore! • Sense of empowerment and ownership of school • More aware of class expectations and school culture • Starting to build study skills and ability to keep up with homework in rigorous classes • Some are thinking of future, others are not yet • Goal – empower and equip them to set and work toward post high school goals.
10th Grade Overview (con’t) • Challenging & balanced curriculum • Strengthen study skills and advocacy skills • Get or stay involved!! (clubs, sports, etc.) • Practice ACT (10/19) and optional PSAT • State Graduation Exams • Naviance • Start researching/visiting colleges • Community Service!! • BSD College Conference
BSD High School Overall Graduation Requirements • 24 Credits (28 possible) • 17 Core credits + 3 Personalized Pathway Requirements + 4 Elective credits • 3rd credit of science and 3rd credit of math are chosen by the student based on their High School and Beyond Plan • Personal Pathway Requirement (PPR)-3 courses that lead to specific post H.S. career or educational outcomes; part of the High School and Beyond Plan • 2.0 Minimum GPA • 40 Hours Community Service • High school and beyond plan
State Testing - Class of 2019 Must meet Smarter Balanced English Language Arts (ELA) standard: Taken in 11th grade Must meet Smarter Balanced Math Standard: Taken in 11th grade Must meet Science Standard: Biology EOC exam OR Comprehensive NGSS (Next generation science standards)Test -1st administration is Spring 2019 OSPI Website for Grad. 11th Grade • Continue in rigorous and balanced program • PSAT October – all juniors take at school • Start or continue researching colleges • College rep visits (Fall), National College Fair (Nov), BSD College Conference (Feb.) • SAT/ACT/SAT Subject tests – student signs up in winter/spring on-line • Continue Community Service, Extra-curricular and Leadership opportunities • Access Career Center resources--- Ms. Worden • Visit! 12th Grade • Set yourself up for a rigorous, balanced and strong senior year • Senior Blitz with focus on post-high school planning • College rep visits (Fall), National College Fair (Nov), BSD College Conference (Feb.) • College applications starting in the fall • Retake SAT/ACT if needed in the fall (no more than three) • Access Career Center resources – Ms. Worden • Celebrate Graduation!
