  2. Using a piece of A3 paper make a mind map of all the piece of graphics equipment that you can think of. Write down the name of the piece of equipment, what it is used for and any safety precautions. Check yourself exam questions Tasks

  3. What do I know about Graphics equipment? SET SQUARES – to draw lines at 30, 60, 90 and 45 degrees. Often used with a drawing board. • CRAFT KNIFE – cutting thin sheet material. Use with safety ruler and cutting mat.

  4. BASIC EQUIPMENT • Pencils • Pens • Templates • Erasers • Colouring media • Drawing board • Set squares • Protractor • Compasses • Rule

  5. DRAWING BOARD • Parallel motion boards, used commonly in schools, parallel lines and angles using other equipment • Drawing board and T square, you can remove the T square for informal drawing • Adjustable drawing boards • Lightweight, easy to carry and store

  6. SET SQUARES • Used in conjunction with the drawing board to draw vertical lines and lines at an angle. • There are 2 sorts of set squares 30°/60° and a 45°/45°

  7. PROTRACTOR • Used to measure angles from 0° -180°/360°

  8. COMPASESS • Used to draw a range of arcs and circles

  9. RULE • 300mm rule graduated into mm

  10. PENCILS • Range from 8B(soft) to 9H(hard). • B=blackness of lead • H=hardness of lead • F=fine lead • Most common for you to use in schools is 2B for sketching and 2H for lightweight drawings.

  11. PENS • Hollow/tubular nib which allows the ink to flow on contact with the paper • Most useful nib sizes are 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5mm

  12. TEMPLATES • Used to simply draw circles, isometric circles, human body. • French curves and flexible curves

  13. ERASERS • Erasing shield • Putty rubber

  14. COLOURING • Coloured pencils • Watercolour pencils • Markers • Watercolours • Airbrushes and spray paint

  15. Craft knife • Safety ruler • Cutting mat • Guillotine • Hot glue gun • Scissors
