  4. Is the IB Diploma right for me? • Workload • Credit from UC’s and other universities • School grades vs. IB grades

  5. Workload • LOTS! Especially as you begin to work on your Applications for Colleges and your Internal Assessments. • Budget your time wisely and make sure all Internal Assessments are completed on time. • Complete your CAS requirements (due April 24, 2020) • Finalize your Extended Essays (due January 15, 2020)

  6. IB Credit at UC • Students who complete the IB diploma with a score of 30 or above will receive 30 quarter (20 semester) units toward their UC degree.Students who receive IB certificates with scores of 5,6 or 7 on Higher Level exams will receive 8 quarter (5.3 semester) units. • Designated examinations may be considered equivalent to UC freshman-level courses in the subject and may be used to satisfy general education or breadth requirements. Students or counselors should contact individual campuses for more information on how subject credit may be granted. • The units granted for IB exams are not counted toward the maximum number of credits required for declaration of a major or the maximum number of units a student may accumulate prior to graduation. Students who enter the UC with IB credit do not have to declare a major earlier than other students, nor are they required to graduate earlier. Duplication with college courses • Students should be advised that college courses taken before or after attending UC may duplicate IB examinations. If the student does duplicate an exam with a college course or vice versa, we will award credit for only one. (example Calculus)

  7. Grades IB subject grades are determined by IB and are based on: • Internal Assessment (teacher moderated) • External Assessment(IB examiner graded) • 1-7 point scale TOK CAS Extended Essay Class grades • Based on Teacher grading guidelines and may be different than AP or IB grades • Include all required student work and exams and on time completion of required IB internal assessments. (detentions will be given) • Class grades do not change based on IB/AP grade received Included in determination of Diploma Anything not completed may result in a student not receiving a certificate for that subject and possibly the loss of the opportunity to receive the diploma. Plagiarism: How to avoid it… • You must reference your sources AND • You must make it clear which words are not your own AND • No extensive quotes; no very close paraphrasing Both result in no grade for the subject concerned and hence no Diploma for that session☹

  14. Consequences You may lose the option of receiving the full diploma and being able to test in a subject this May if: • ANY internal or external requirements were not completed on time • ANY malpractice is discovered (especially after submitting the declaration on IBO website) • ANY disregard to the Learner Profile and the Mission of the IB. • If this happens there is no refund in the costs of the exams!

  16. Individual test schedule AP Schedule • Monday, May 4th - Friday, May 15th IB Schedule • Friday, May 1st - Friday, May 22nd Registration done through Total Registration.net in October for both AP and IB exams. This will help with the overlap of AP and IB exams. Please use Managebac to verify exam schedule. Contact me if you have questions. I will closely work with AP coordinator to minimize conflicts. **IB doesn’t allow for changes in exams for sports or other competitions, unless international competitions. .

  17. 2020 IB fees/AP fees, registration, refunds • IB Fees(last year’s): $125.00 per exam,(plus Total Registration fees) $172.00 for registration These are non-refundable fees (any changes after November 1 will incur additional fees) • IB registration and payment of fees will be done October 1-15, 2019 on Total Registration • FRL forms will minimize fees if submitted prior to Sept. 13, 2019 • AP fees: $94.00 per exam, registering in Sept. this year • You must know what exams you are going to take, no refunds will be offered!
