March 14, 2014 Opening • Read “Jabberwocky” silently • Mark any sound devices (onomatopoeia, rhyme scheme, repetition, alliteration) that you come across along the way. • Indicate any words that you don’t understand as you go – make an attempt to figure out what they mean. • After reading, talk with your table groups. Any good ideas?
Reading Aloud • Questions? • Listen very carefully to the reading. Does the reader’s delivery give any clues as to what these words mean? • Take down possible definitions as they come to you while listening. The WHOLE sheet is yours to doodle on, so don’t be afraid of changing your answers!
Work Session • View the Muppets’ presentation of “Jabberwocky.” Make use of the visual cues the video gives to help with your definitions. • Finish the definitions, then complete the short-answer section at the bottom of the handout. • You mayquietly confer with your peers during this process – giving words their meaning is a social practice, after all! • BUT!!!! Remember that this handout is due at the end of class.
