  4. Where we are up to? • All children going are fully paid • Trip final details are nearly all through • Visit to PGL Centre check arrangement by myself • L.A. have received all necessary paper work required at this stage • Governors have given final approval • We are ready to go!

  5. What can you expect at PGL? • Staff accompanying the children are Mr Clerc, Miss Roper, Miss Pimblott, Mrs Dodd and Mr Rayner/Mrs Zaman. • Children are split into 4 activity groups with approximately 9 in each group. • Children will find out what groups and bedrooms they are in when they are before we go. • Bedrooms are for either 4 or 6 children.

  6. What can you expect at PGL? • Staff rooms are placed adjacent to each row of children's rooms • Security – controlled access to the site, all staff are uniformed, CCTV cameras on all entrances and accommodation blocks, night patrols, all rooms lockable BUT our staff have keys to all rooms. • Children and staff will be fully briefed on all safety aspects including fire, behaviour etc. upon arrival

What can you expect at PGL? • Our group will be assigned a “Groupie” who will manage and lead the children throughout the week. • Each activity will be led by a fully qualified instructor (on some more than 1) and supported by at least one member of St John’s staff. • Days will be filled with activities from about 7.30am through to 8.30pm. Activities lasting around 1.5 hours.

What can you expect at PGL? • One aim is to develop children’s independence and therefore the residential is geared around children taking responsibility for their own decisions e.g. packing kit for an activity, food choices etc. • We do want children to push themselves and come back proud of their achievements! • We will tweet/add photos to facebook – please remember staff will not have the time to keep tallies of the number of times children appear, we will do our best!

Itinerary: Monday 10th March • Arrive at school at the normal time and take luggage to the hall, with the luggage label attached, this will be stored safely. • Children will have their normal school lunch arrangements – disposable bag for their lunch is advisable. • We will be leaving school at approximately 1pm, we will confirm nearer to the residential the exact time should you wish to wave us off. • Arrival at the centre 3.00pm • Shown to rooms and tour of the centre • Behaviour and safety briefing by centre staff • We will confirm by text our safe arrival, in addition to tweeting/facebook on the Year 6 account • Evening Meal • Evening Activities

  12. Frequently Asked Questions: • Bedding – not provided, a sleeping bag and pillow is needed. • Meals – there is a choice of 2 meat options and 1 vegetarian each meal. Children can choose a hot or cold breakfast. Please ensure we are aware of any dietary needs. • Bedrooms – all have en-suites with showers. Children will shower after all water activities and can at other times of the day.

  13. Frequently Asked Questions: • Activities – all run by PGL staff, all qualified. All St John’s children will do the same activities over the course of the week unless the weather prevents this. • Money and Valuables – Children may bring up to £15 spending money, it must be in coins to help them budget as they will have a chance to visit the shop once a day. They have an opportunity to purchase souvenirs on the last night – see price list. All money bags/purses clearly labelled and handed in on Monday morning. St John’s staff will keep it in their safe. • Electricals - No mobile phones or electrical items other than hairdryers if they need to. • Cameras – Can be brought but it is your child’s responsibility. • Medication – to be handed in on the morning of departure with usual school medication slips filled in.

What do you need to do next: • Talk tonight's issues through with your child • Keep school posted of any changes in details e.g. contact/medical details • Take away a pack from tonight containing kit lists, a summary of tonight's meeting, Parental Approval Form and Price List • Complete the information form in your pack – ignore contact details unless they have changed.

  15. What do you need to do next: Kit List Clothing Take plenty of clothing in case of wet weather. Clothing should be old. • Nightwear • Underwear • Socks, including dry, clean socks for evenings and over ankle length  • 2 or more fleeces / Sweatshirts • 4T-shirts • 2Long sleeved T-shirt • 3 pairs of old trousers (not jeans) 2 for activities and one for evening • 2 pairs of trainers (1 for wet activities) • 1 pair of shoes or trainers for indoors • Waterproof jacket (and waterproof trousers if you have them) • Hat and gloves • Swimwear • 1 set of Disco Clothes

  16. What do you need to do next: Kit List Other Essentials • Sleeping bag, pillow and pillow case • Wash bag (soap & toothbrush etc. but no aerosols as it sets the fire detectors off) • 2 Large towels • Torch & batteries • Plastic water bottle • Small Bag/Rucksack (for taking clothing to activities) • Labelled plastic bags / bin liners (for wet items) Please ensure all clothing is clearly labelled and is suitably old as clothing will get dirty, wet and suffer wear and tear!

  17. What do you need to do next: • Should you need to contact PGL, in a emergency only, please do this by contacting school during the day on 0161 442 7424 or outside school hours Stockport Control Room on 0161 474 5555 or 0161 474 5556, who will contact school on your behalf. • Over the next few weeks please encourage your child to practise taking responsibility for organising themselves!
