  2. From this diagram, we can see the dendrites, the cell body, the axon and myelin sheath. Each neuron contains a nerve cell body that contains a nucleus and various organelles such as mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus.

  3. Dendrites • Branch off from nerve cells • Picks up signals from other cells • The dendrites branch off from other cells which act like tiny antennae to pick up signals from other cells.

  4. Axon • Situated at the end of the nerve cell body • Long with thin fibres that contain branches. • Branches send signals. • The axon is situated at opposite ends of the nerve cell body. It has long and thin fibres that has branches at the end. These branches send signals.

  5. Myelin Sheath • Insulates the axon • Contains Schwann cells • Nerve cell impulses are received by the dendrites, travel down the branches of the dendrites to the nerve cells body and are carries along the axon.
