  3.  Small Business operations covers two main units:  Unit 27: Monitor and Manage Small Business Operations  Unit 39: Build and Maintain Relationships with Small Business Stakeholders  Both of these can be found in the Saudi Skills Standards Booklet 3 Introduction to Small Business Operations

  4.  Units have been combined  These two courses will build a strong comprehension of the required knowledge to effectively run a business, from an operational perspective  By the end of the course, you are expected to be able to identify, challenge, modify, and evaluate business performance criteria, when considering the stakeholders in the business. 4 Introduction to Small Business Operations

  5.  18 weeks of class  4-hours per week  2 units  5 Assignments (3% each)  14 total quizzes (13 towards points) 5 Introduction to Small Business Operations

  6.  2 review periods  2 periods of reflection (week of Nov. 27; Jan. 22)  4 Chapters  Materials will be provided by Course Lead 6 Introduction to Small Business Operations

  7.  Classes begin on time  You are in business – being late is NOT an option  You are in your third and final year – you are role models for your peers  There is only one person speaking at a time  Whether it is your professor or your peer, only one persons speaks at a time  You should be prepared to go into meetings in REAL LIFE – if you have your own conversations, you would be asked to leave. I will do the same  Respect your peers –You are all putting effort into speaking in front of one-another, so give the same respect you expect from others 7 Introduction to Small Business Operations

  8.  Participation is key to long-term learning  If questions or ideas are brought forward during class, you are expected to speak  If nobody answers a question, a person at random will be asked to answer a question  Poor Attitudes have consequences  You are here to learn; I am here to teach  If it is apparent that you have a poor attitude, Quiz scores will be deducted.  If quiz points no longer hold weight to attitude, the College advisors will be contacted 8 Introduction to Small Business Operations

  9.  I am not a babysitter  You will conduct yourself in a professional manner  Those who cannot act professionally will be requested to go to academic advisors  Language of Instruction is English  It is expected that in your third year of post-secondary, you are prepared to use Business English.  No languages except English will be allowed to be used in this class  You will do your best  This is most important: you will do work that you are proud of 9 Introduction to Small Business Operations

  10. Without operations management, there is little control over the functions associated with the production of your goods. If you are making food, there are multiple operations required in order to make a quality product. Each person involved in the action contributes directly to a given process within the operation. The question is: how do me most efficiently meet the performance requirements to maintain business, or exceed customer expectations? 10

  12.  Every class will have two quizzes – one at the beginning of class, which will judge your pre-class knowledge.  You can excel in the first quiz by pre-reading the chapter slides  The second quiz will be at the end of the chapter. This will see who has paid the attention  There are three types of prizes:  Monthly Prize: at the end of each month, the student with the most points in the month will get a small prize  ½ Semester: The student with the best score during the first half, and the student with the best during the second half each get a secondary prize  End of Semester Prize: The grand prize – the student with top score will get the top prize.   13.  For the purpose of this class, we will use Kahoot! (http://getkahoot.com)  Each student will be responsible for being on time and logging into the quiz with the special code  If you are not in during the first quiz, you will not be eligible for the points  The first quiz will always commence 5 within 5-minutes of class commencing. 13 Introduction to Business Planning

  14.  5 total assignments  Strategy Development: You have recently learned about the concept of strategy development, which reflects a change in the way a product is produced. It is your job to come up with a specific strategy to implement the new technology into the processes in your current business. What will you require to effectively commit to this strategy?  Develop KPIs: You are a new operations manager in a given company. While looking at a process, you are having a hard time determining whether or not the process is efficient. You are tasked with determining the current state performance metrics, and you will have to develop KPIs, which will provide you and your boss with an idea of how well you and your team is doing.  JIT (Just In Time): The world is becoming smaller, and the speed of goods from one hand to the next is accelerating. Because of this, we can begin having inventory reach our production facility just in time for production. It will be your task to identify what “just in time” is for your process. 14 Introduction to Business Planning

  15.  5 total Assignments  Performance Evaluation: You will be reviewing the KPIs set by your colleague in order to determine whether or not he is meeting his performance requirements. You will be given a set of performance data, and it will be your task to effectively evaluate the overall performance of the manager.  New Business Opportunity: Innovation. Innovation. Innovation. That is the name of the game. You will be given an industry that you are currently in, and you will be given an emerging technology. Be creative – you can start to identify a new business opportunity. Hold on though, because you have a budget! 15 Introduction to Business Planning
