  3. Site and Date • We have a big proposal:hosting the conference in September. • 15-17 (Tue-Thu) Sep 2009at Rokko hall in the Kobe University

  4. Where is Kobe? • Last PIC in Japan: 1987 in Tsukuba Kyoto Tokyo • This time: in the vicinity of Kobe • A main city in Kansai region,which is the centre of West Japan

  5. Kansai region: closer look • Main cities:Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe • Direct flights available to Kansai Airport • From Europe, North America and Asia • 65min Shuttle-bus to Kobe city centre About 50km

  6. Why in September? • More new results in PIC • Large collaborations show most of the results world-premiere in summer conferences→ Interesting review talks in PIC • September is still a holiday season for universities

  7. If most of you don’t like … • We also reserved a back-up site in June • 9-11 (Tue-Thu) June 2009in Awaji Yumebutai Int’l Conference Centre(in Awaji island, 30km west of Kobe)

  8. Proposed venue: Kobe Univ. Kobe Univ. • Access: < 30min from Kobe city centre (5km) • … where hotels are located • By train+(bus or walk) • Residential area, on the hill, nice harbour view City centre.

  9. Meeting place: Rokko Hall • >150 desk+chair config. • Foyer surrounding the lecture hall for posters Hall Foyer

  10. Alternative venue for June:Awaji Yumebutai ICC • Access: coach (45min, once/hour) from Kobe • Through the Akashi Channel bridge, the longest suspension bridge(3991m, 1991m span) • Located in a sea-side park, with a view of Osaka bay • Stay: The Westin hotel on site Greenhouse Westin ICC

  11. Conference room at Awaji • ~100 people with chair+desk • Foyer in front for poster session • Buildings (incl. hotel and others) by Tadao Ando • The architect who build Pulitzer Museum of Arts in St. Louis

Rough cost estimation • Conference fee: between $200 and €200 • Assuming recent exchange rate 1$ ~ \110, 1€ ~ \160 • Price range for hotels • Kobe city centre: various accommodations • $60 – luxury class • Awaji (Westin): • $125 / 105 / 70 (or € 85 / 65 / 50 )for single / double / triple occupancy

  13. Weather • September: day/night 29/22C, humid, may rain • Early June: day/night 26/20C, humid, rainy • Remember that you get used to hot weather in September. • Very hot and humid in July and August

  14. Conclusion • Universities in Kansai region + KEK wish to host PIC2009 in Kobe, Japan. • Proposed date in September. • Have happy discussion! Kobe
