  1. What is a Lexile rating?

  2. Lexile Rating A Lexile measure tells you both the level of a text, such as a book or magazine article, and your reading ability. Knowing the Lexile measure of a book and your Lexile rating helps to predict how the book matches the student’s reading ability— whether the book is too easy, too difficult or just right.

  3. Does it show me what grade level I read on? No! Lexile ratings do not relate to specific grade levels. There is a range for each grade. Ninth grade is 1000 to 1250. If my Lexile rating is 700, does that mean I read on a seventh grade level?

  4. What Lexile ranges are acceptable in high school? The following chart is a guideline for Lexile ratings. The chart is taken from the Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI), which is the assessment instrument we use at Sprayberry. *Please note: These are year-end ranges. The Standard Error of Measurement (SEM) is 50.

  5. Besides school, why should I care about Lexile ratings? Great Question! Lexile ratings are important to REAL life activities! You want to get your driver’s license? Get a job? Understand how to work your iPod? Check these out!
