  1. Matthew 7:6-23 By their fruits

  2. Beware of false prophets: • A warning • Don’t believe just anyone • Scribes & Pharisees

  3. Then Jesus said to them, "Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.“ Matthew 16:6

  4. Then Jesus said to them, "Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.“ Matthew 16:6 How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread?--but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees." Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Matthew 16:11-12

  5. Then the Pharisees came out and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him. But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation." Mark 8:11-12

  6. Then the Pharisees came out and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him. But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation." Mark 8:11-12 Then He charged them, saying, "Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod." Mark 8:15

  7. In the meantime, when an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. Luke 12:1 Mark 7:1-9

  8. Not by how they look: • Sheep costume • Really wolves • Don’t judge appearances • “inwardly”

  9. By their fruit: • Like a tree • Compare with the word

  10. By their fruit: • Like a tree • Compare with the word So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God. Colossians 2:16-19

  11. By their fruit: • Like a tree • Compare with the word • Manner of life

  12. By their fruit: • Like a tree • Compare with the word • Manner of life But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:22-26

  13. By their fruit: • Like a tree • Compare with the word • Manner of life And He said, "Woe to you also, lawyers! For you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers. Luke 11:46

  14. By their fruit: • Like a tree • Compare with the word • Manner of life • Not by “miracles” • By how they live

  15. For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain. One of them, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons." This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth. To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled. They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work. Titus 1:10-16

  16. Hypocrite: • Dogs, swine • False prophets & fools • A second face • In the church

  17. I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars Revelation 2:2

  18. I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars Revelation 2:2 I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich); and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Revelation 2:9

  19. But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. Revelation 2:14-15

  20. Revelation 2:14-15 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. Revelation 2:20

  21. God already knows: • A Christ-less eternity • Playing the game • A serious issue • God isn’t impressed • God expects us to know

  22. Understand the purpose: • Because of heresy • Meant to divide • Doctrine is not evil

  23. Know and practice right doctrine • Know God’s word – study! • Live application- be a doer! • Be careful who you listen to!
