    1. Metrology & measurement system prepared by Eng. Amal Khalid Al-Azemi Head of Calibration & metrology Lab Public Authority For Industry Kuwait

    2. Metrology Basics ISO 17025  measurements as a process Measurement system analysis Kuwaiti regulations related to metrology Agenda

    3. Metrology Basics Mistakes can make measurements and counts incorrect Even if there are no mistakes, nearly all measurements are still inexact why ?

    4. What is Metrology ? Metrology is the science that establishes the correctness of specific measurement situations. This is done by anticipating and allowing for both mistakes and error. .

    6. What is Calibration? Calibration is the process where metrology is applied to measurement equipment and processes to determine confromity with a known standard of measurement usually tracable to a national standards board

    7. Some common standards include: ISO 17025:2005—General Requirements for Calibration Laboratories ISO 9000—Quality Systems Management ISO 14000—Environmental Management 21 CFR Part 210/211—FDA Regulations concerning GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) Quality Systems

    9. Blood pressure Weight Heart rate Respiration Body fat percentage Blood chemistry Strength Flexibility

    10. Assign clear accountability/responsibility Establish performance goals Conduct regular review and analysis Use information for better decision-making and improvement Communicate performance information

    11. ISO 17025 “Measurement as a Process”

    12. Process Flow Measurement

    13. How to Design An Effective Measure? Plan How will you use the data? Have you selected and defined your measure? Collect How will you collect the data?

    14. Analyze How can you ensure that the data will be relevant and believable? What does the data indicate? Adapt How will you communicate your findings? What kind of action should occur How to Design An Effective Measure?

    15. Measurement system analysis

    16. Measurement System Analysis (MSA )

    17. A Measurement Systems Analysis considers the following: Selecting the correct measurement and approach Assessing the measuring device Assessing procedures & operators Assessing any measurement interactions Calculating the measurement uncertainty of individual measurement devices and/or measurement system

    18. measurement uncertainty describes a region about an observed value of a physical quantity, also called a measurand, which is likely to enclose the true value of that quantity. Measurement uncertainty may be denoted by error bars on a graph, or by the following notations: measured value ± uncertainty measured value(uncertainty) Measurement Uncertainty
