Background Practice based learning Seven day working • Mandatory 1000 hours as part of degree • Aim is to consolidate theoretical knowledge into practice • Practice based educators facilitate, provide guidance and assess the students. • Traditionally Mon – Fri with one educator • More recent approaches include collaborative and team approach. • Traditionally Mon – Fri 8-5 service with on call service • Moving to 7/7 due to NHS plans • 7/7 reduces length of stay, improves patient safety / choice and meets expectations of 24/7 lifestyle we lead • Physio services are now moving to 7/7 and extended hours.

  3. Research question • What are the experiences of practice based learning within a seven day model of working for practice based physiotherapy educators, physiotherapy students and university link tutors?

  4. The journey begins • Seven day placements are being hosted in all specialities • Hosted in both acute and community settings • Some voluntary, some compulsory • Students appreciate the benefits to patients

  5. Going up – Barriers • Dropping off the learning curve • In the dark

  6. Don’t know if i am up or down!- challenges • Getting to grips with new ways of working • It’s different at weekends

  7. WEEEEEE!!!!!!Positive changes • Another tool in my tool box • Part of the team

  8. WHERE NEXT? • Communication & collaboration • Preparing and supporting students • Transient teams • caseload management and clinical reasoning • Handover tool • Impact of shift work • Coming together to create a history • Time to reflect • Long term career??
