Monday , January 9, 2012 Objective – SWBAT research the qualities inherent in a good leader, apply information to creation of a fictional leader that has qualities consistent with the goals of the group utopia project. Warm up - Team Meetings to set daily goals Agenda – • Classroom – Groups review information on leaders brought in by all team members. Decide on the characteristics of a leader for your society, and choose a leader. • Turn in a short explanation of who your leader is, what makes them a good leader, and why they would lead your society well. • Team meeting to evaluate progress and set goals homework completion and next day’s activities. Homework – Individual assignments based on team goals.

  2. Monday , January 9, 2012 Goals for today’s utopia work sessions: • Present your research on a leader that you think would be best for your utopia. Teams review the characteristics of a good leader and choose the leader that best meets those characteristics. • Write a short summary to turn in that lists the leader that you chose, and the reasons that person would be a good fit to lead your community. • Begin aspects of society worksheet – BE SURE to review your utopia definition (or mission statement) to make sure your plans are consistent with your goals. • Begin to review the different essay topics and decide on essay assignments.

  3. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 Objective – SWBAT apply prior knowledge of utopian decisions to solve common societal problems in their utopia. Warm up - Bill of Rights – questions and quiz. Answer on your own paper Agenda – • Team Meetings to set daily goals • Classroom – Finish the aspects of society worksheet, and begin to review Step 5: Bill of Rights. (Use NC Books 258-260 to help you) • Bill of Rights – Discussion and grades • Team meeting to evaluate progress and set goals homework completion and next day’s activities. Homework – Individual assignments based on team goals.

Now that we have talked about the Bill of Rights and how making the WRONG amendments can go horribly wrong...it is time for you to create a bill of rights protecting 10 specific rights for the citizens of your utopia. Along with your government and aspects page, this assignment should be completed by the end of class on Tuesday. • 2. Ask yourself, "What rights do we NEED to protect?" "How will this 'right' infringe on someone's freedom?" "What balance do we need to achieve between freedom and equality?"

  8. Wednesday, January 11, 2012 Objective – SWBAT apply prior knowledge of utopian societies and understanding of the US Constitution Bill of Rights to create a Bill of Rights for group utopias. Warm up - Team Meetings to set daily goals Agenda – • Classroom – Review of 5 paragraph essay format • Complete Bill of Rights for your utopia that is consistent with your overall utopian society goals. • Team meeting to evaluate progress and set goals homework completion and next day’s activities. Homework – Individual assignments based on team goals.
